The artistic talents of Dripping Springs will be on display in photographic form this month from the 3^rd of December through the 10th at the Acopon Brewing Company on Mercer Street, where the Photographers of Dripping Springs (PODS) are presenting their annual show.

The opening of the show will be celebrated with the artists on the afternoon of Sunday the 3rd, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Acopon Brewing Company on Mercer Street. Come enjoy the art along with Acopon’s craft brews and conversation at this reception, or stop by Acopon through the following week to enjoy their art.

This year’s show spans the work of twenty-five local artists, as selected by judge Amanda Smith. She is director of the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, where she promotes the photographic arts through exhibitions, workshops and the facilitating of an active vibrant community of photographers. The show is the largest one to date from the Photographers of Dripping Springs. The genres represented cover a wide spectrum, from nature and landscapes, to portraits and even architecture.

With their motto “Keepin’ Drippin’ Clickin’”, the Photographers of Dripping Springs have been very dynamic, from field trips to workshops, and serving as the city’s official photographers for its many publications. The membership is active and always developing, as the growing quality and diversity of the works selected to show gives testament. Members range from enthusiastic hobbyists to published professionals, and the works on display employ everything from expensive SLR cameras all the way to an iPhone, so there’s a place for anyone with a passionate eye

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, PODS will hold the November meeting one week (and one day) early. The meeting will be next week – Wednesday, November 15th at 7:00pm at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church (Parish Hall) located at 301 Hays Country Acres Rd in Dripping Springs, Texas. We will be hosting a photography “show and tell” this month with our members and guests bringing in their favorite piece of photography equipment. Anyone who would like to get up and talk about their equipment will be able to do so and we will allow time for everyone to get a chance to ask questions and see the gear. At the end of the meeting we will also have a swap meet so that anyone that’s looking to sell, trade or buy used (or new) equipment can do so at that time. We’ve done this Show & Tell/Swap Meet several times in the past and it’s always been so much fun! So don’t miss out- mark your calendars now!

Join us for the PODS September Meeting! Our meeting will be held on Thursday, September 28th starting at 6:30pm. We meet at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church (Parish Hall) located at 301 Hays Country Acres Rd in Dripping Springs. This month we are pleased to have our own PODS members Travis and Carolyn Megason as our guest speakers. They will be presenting their travelogue (with photos, of course!) of Southeast Asia with an emphasis on the beautiful and unique people of that part of the world. Our meetings are open and free to the general public and to all ages!

The PODS August 2017 meeting will be held this Thursday, August 24th starting at 6:30pm. The meeting is located at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church (Parish Hall) 301 Hays Country Acres Rd, Dripping Springs, Texas. Our meetings are open and free to the public- all ages are welcome!
Our guest speaker will be our very own Dave Wilson. He will be talking to us about his experience shooting photos for the Dripping Springs High School Tiger Band for the past 4 years. It promises to be both informative and fun!

The PODS July meeting will be held on Thursday, July 27th starting at 6:30pm. The meeting is located at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church at 301 Hays Country Acres Rd in Dripping Springs. Meetings are free and open to the public- all ages are welcome.

This month we will be joined by local film photographer and instructor Joyce Kang.
She is a teacher, a workshop instructor for Embrace The Grain Workshops and a film photographer living in Austin Texas. She first fell in love with photography when her uncle, a retired Kodak employee, gifted her a professional SLR Nikon camera and lenses in the 1990s. In 2010, she rekindled her love of film photography and started her business as a professional portrait photographer in Austin, Texas. Although she still shoots with an oldie but goodie DSLR, a Nikon D700, and a brand new mirrorless Fujifilm X-E2, her first love will always be film. Film is soft, luminous, beautiful, nostalgic and romantic. It’s like a Jane Austen novel or a timeless black dress that will never go out of style! In addition to teaching, her work has been featured and published in several international photography blogs and magazines such as Let the Kids Dress Themselves (best of 2014), NAPCP, Clickinmom, Click Magazine, In Beauty and Chaos, Light Inspired and Lemonade and Lenses, and taught Intro to Film at Click Away Conference 2015.

The PODS June meeting will be held on Thursday, June 22nd starting at 6:30pm. The meeting is located at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church at 301 Hays Country Acres Rd in Dripping Springs. Meetings are free and open to the public- all ages are welcome.

This month we will be joined by local portrait photographer, Tim Babiak, for a mini-workshop on using off-camera flash for outdoor portraiture. Bring your camera because we will have a professional model to photograph using the techniques Tim covers with professional flash equipment.

The Photographers of Dripping Springs (PODS) is definitely the place to be to get ready for your summer vacation! PODS Vice President Doug Gephardt will be presenting at this week’s meeting. The topic is “Travel Photography-tips and sampler”.He’ll be offering lots of tips to help you capture wonderful memories from your summer travels.

The PODS April Meeting will be held on Thursday April 27th at 6:30pm – Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Dripping Springs. Our guest speaker will be Jeff Parker and the topic is Wildlife and Nature Photography. Wildlife & nature photographer, Jeff Parker, was captivated by nature’s big screen long before he developed a passion for capturing it with the camera.
He thoroughly enjoys helping other nature-lovers improve their photography techniques and also showing them great places to do so. How much luckier could he be? — Jeff gets to talk photography with others who love the natural world!
Jeff’s photographs have appeared in many publications and websites including: Audubon Magazine, NANPA’s Expressions, American Profile, American Airlines’ Celebrated Living, American Profile Magazine, Texas Journey Magazine,Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine,Texas Wildlife Magazine, and Cenizo.

The PODS March meeting will be held on Thursday, March 23rd at 6:30pm. Meeting is located at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church (Parish Hall) – 301 Hays Country Acres Rd in Dripping Springs. Our guest speakers this month will be PODS members Warren Capps and Tom Hausler. They will be regaling us with their recent escapades in Iceland after one of the biggest snowstorms in that country’s history. They will fill us in on the challenges of shooting photos in arctic conditions.
