Welcome to 2014

We had a great Holiday gathering.  Thank you to all who made that a pleasant experience.  A big thanks to the city for letting us use their new Ranch Park facility and a shout out to The Pizza Cave for a great meal.  We at PODS hope your ending to 2013 and the start to 2014 was and has been all you hoped it would be.  As we embark on a New Year we look forward to our new start with our new members (welcome everyone!)  we have grown to 29 embers and will continue to grow more this year.  A reorganization to some of our committee board members (November 2013 was an election year) leaves us very excited to start this year off running full steam. Lots of plans in the making that will teach you something and keep your interests peaked.  Here are some of the things we will continue to do as a group.

1. Monthly Meetings: at the Dripping Springs Library on the 4th Thursday of each month (2- 28- 2014, 3- 27- 2014, 4- 24- 2014, 5- 22- 2014, 6 -26- 2014), at 6:00 PM at the Dripping Springs Community Library, 501 Sportsplex Drive. Visitors are always welcome.

February’s meeting will welcome once again Photosophia.

“Photosophia”: a group of women from different backgrounds coming together around photography. We plan to share how our group came about, what it has done for us in our photographic lives and share images from a recent photo-trip we took together in Mexico. We hope there will be ideas and inspiration PODS members can use in their own photographic journey. ”  It will be engaging presentation for all interested.  This is free of charge.  Come join us!

2. Monthly Gathering: Either as a field trip or class. This is left up to the committee members and how they choose to plan out the year. Stay tuned for more of an outline in the near future.  February field trip hopefully will consist of a neon experience teaching about night “light” photography.  Perhaps we learn how to draw with light onto a photograph (this is up for approval). Update: Our Activities Committee had a meeting and tentatively planned out the first couple of months in 2014. Feb. brings a field trip involving night photography (more TBA soon). March will bring a field trip to The Sherwood Forest and possibly a private tour of Westcave Preserve. April we all know the bluebonnets are about to bloom so a trip for wildflowers is at hand along with a field trip to the Bluebonnet air show.  Don’t forget The Feather Fest is happening in April in Galveston. May brings the Kingsbury Air Fair.  In the month of June we plan to meet up with the roller derby lasses for a bout that will be high energy and fun to photograph.

3. Gallery Show(s)– Wesley Gallery graciously hosts a show for us annually late every year. Very thankful the Gallery will host again in 2014!  Thank you to ALL at Wesley Gallery for your generosity and hospitality we appreciate you all.

4. Digital Show: PODS photos are hand selected by a juror for the digital frames that travel around the community for a month.  These photos then have a show of their own as pieces on display which are for sale, with photographers on hand they are there to answer any questions and listen to comments from the public. 2014 event will sure to top last years event.  Meet the photographers at Trudy’s after the frame travels this year!  More information as it comes available.

5..  GUEST SPEAKERS :  We have a committee for this.  Planning is underway for what will surely impress as last year’s speakers were engaging and professional. 2014 is sure to hold a line up that is engaging.  Speakers will be listed as they are confirmed.  You can read about the current speaker in the months meeting reminder that is posted here (on the home page), Yahoo Groups and Facebook.
